How to Calculate Percent Daily Value
The basic formula is simple: divide the nutrient amount in one serving by the FDA Daily Value for that nutrient, then multiply by 100. For example, 160mg sodium divided by the 2,300mg Daily Value equals 6.95%, which rounds to 7% DV.
FDA Daily Values Used by This Calculator
This calculator uses FDA Daily Values for adults and children 4 years of age and older. Daily Values are the reference amounts used to calculate the %DV column on most Nutrition Facts labels.
The FDA explains that %DV shows how much a nutrient in one serving contributes to a daily diet. A 5% DV or less is generally considered low, while 20% DV or more is considered high for a nutrient.

| Total Fat | 8g | 78g | 10% |
| Added Sugars | 10g | 50g | 20% |
| Dietary Fiber | 4g | 28g | 14% |
| Calcium | 260mg | 1,300mg | 20% |
| Iron | 8mg | 18mg | 44% |
| Potassium | 240mg | 4,700mg | 5% |
Sodium Daily Value Calculator
Sodium is one of the most common Daily Value calculations for Nutrition Facts labels. The FDA Daily Value for sodium is 2,300mg, so a food with 160mg sodium per serving calculates to 7% DV.
Added Sugars Daily Value Calculator
Added sugars use a 50g Daily Value. If a serving includes 10g added sugars, the calculation is 10g divided by 50g multiplied by 100, which equals 20% DV.
